Eggs and chicken are the source of protein and nutrients for the poor and middle class. Khasi and beef are not allowed. That egg and chicken market has been volatile for quite some time.

Eggs and chicken are the source of protein and nutrients for the poor and middle class. Khasi and beef are not allowed. That egg and chicken market has been volatile for quite some time.

However, after various dramas, some relief has returned to the egg market. But the price of chicken has started to increase again. The same picture is seen in most raw markets of the capital, including Jinjira and Aganagar in Keraniganj and Nayabazar, Karwan Bazar and New Market in the capital.

The country's egg market has been unrestrained for a couple of months. Increasingly, the price of eggs at the retail level reached 180-190 rupees per dozen. Market monitoring by various government ministries and departments to control the market, periodic meetings with egg traders in various markets, import of eggs from India and finally reduction of 20 percent duty on import of eggs by National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The price of eggs has started to decrease in the market. However, eggs are still being sold at more than the price set by the government. Traders say that if you can buy eggs at a low price from the producer level, it will be possible to sell them at the fixed price in the wholesale and retail markets.

An egg trader in Karwan Bazar said that they are trying to sell eggs at the price set by the government. But its price is high at the production level. As it goes through the wholesaler to the consumer, its price increases.

At present, each dozen eggs are being sold at 155-160 taka at the retail level, he said, adding that each dozen eggs are being sold at 150 taka and currently at 50 taka. If the supply is good, the price will drop further soon.

Even if the price starts to decrease, there is no smile on the face of the buyer. Because still more than one and a half hundred rupees have to be counted for every dozen eggs. They say the product to meet the protein demand is now out of reach; There is no mention of non-vegetarians.

Buyers said that the price of fish and chicken in the market is already unbridled. It is a luxury to meet non-vegetarian needs. Now the price of eggs is also high. It also has to struggle to meet the protein needs.

Another buyer Rahim said that the price of eggs and chicken is very high in the market now. The campaign is not working. The syndicate of traders is very strong. It will not be possible to break this syndicate unless strict laws are enforced.

When the egg market is in this situation, the chicken market is also on the rise. Broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 200-210 per kg and golden chickens are being sold at Tk 280-300. And the white layer is selling for 250 taka and the red layer is selling for 280 taka. Besides, ducks are being sold at Tk 550-600 per piece depending on the breed.

The sellers say that the supply of chicken has decreased in the market. Moreover, rising prices of chicken feed and chicks are disrupting the production system, which is also affecting the market. Ripon, a chicken trader at Aganagar market in Keraniganj, said,

There are fewer chickens in the market. In addition to the increase in wholesale prices, it has an impact on the retail market as well.

However, the price of beef and beef remains unchanged in the market. Beef is being sold at Tk 750-800 per kg. Besides, goat meat is being sold at Tk 1,500 to Tk 1,100 per kg and goat meat at Tk 1,000.
