The incident took place on Friday (October 18) at 12:30 pm in the area adjacent to Gafargaon railway station.
Mymensingh GRP Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Amit said that due to the stoppage of train movement, there has been great suffering among the railway passengers.
He said that the replacement engine is going to the spot to remove the broken engine. However, it will take another hour for the railway to return to normal. He also said that train movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh and Mohanganj railways has been stopped for now.
Meanwhile, the train left for Mymensingh three hours after the engine failure of the Mahua commuter train at Gafargaon railway station on October 17.
Those concerned said that the Mohanganj-bound Mahua commuter train from Dhaka left Gafargaon railway station in the afternoon and reached the outer area when the engine malfunctioned. Later, the train was backed up and taken to line 2 of the railway station. Later from Mymensingh Junction the alternate engine actually leaves the train destined for Mymensingh. The passengers suffered greatly.
