Jamaat delegation meets with CEC

A six-member delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has met

with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC)

AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission to seek the return of its registration and symbol following the Supreme Court's Appellate Division verdict.

The meeting of the six-member team led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad with the Chief Election Commissioner began at the commission's office on Monday (June 2) at 12 noon.


Other members of the team are - Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Media and Publicity Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council Member and Secretary of the Central Media and Publicity Department Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, Central Executive Council Member Mubarak Hossain, Central Working Committee Member Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar and renowned lawyer Advocate Shishir Monir.


Earlier, the Appellate Division directed

the Election Commission (EC) to take necessary steps to restore the cancelled registration of Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party. A four-judge appellate bench led by the Chief Justice announced the verdict on Sunday (June 1) morning.

 


The order given by the appeal bench was published in the afternoon after being signed by four judges including Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed . A copy of the order has been sent to the Election Commission. Lawyer Shishir Monir confirmed the matter.
