involving its convener Nahid Islam
is politically motivated. This information was given in a release signed by NCP Joint Member Secretary (Office) Saleh Uddin Sifat on Saturday (May 31) evening.
NCP
It mentioned that on Friday (May 30), a report with a misleading headline was published in some media outlets implicating NCP convener Nahid Islam. NCP strongly condemned and protested against this report.
A media outlet has mentioned Atiq
Morshed as Nahid Islam's personal officer - which is not correct. In fact, Atiq Morshed was Nahid Islam's personal officer when he was an advisor. But currently he is working as a personal officer of Faiz Tayyeb Ahmed, the special assistant to the chief advisor. The NCP convener has also clarified the matter in the media. Such reports implicating him in the Nagad-related matter are politically motivated. The reporter concerned has been accused of presenting a commissioned report received from an intelligence agency to the public as so-called 'investigative journalism'. Earlier, such news was published about various politicians during the One-Eleven government. Currently, exactly the same kind of activities are echoing the fascist system and creating another One-Eleven scenario.
The NCP is observing with concern that after the publication of this report, without any verification, the media cell of a major political party is continuously making 'photo cards' targeting the NCP and Nahid Islam and spreading misinformation.
However, in the face of protests from students and the public, two or three media outlets have revised the reports published in their online versions, but several other media outlets and a party leader have published reports with flashy and misleading headlines implicating Nahid Islam, citing a Facebook post by a party leader.
The NCP has called on the mentioned
media outlets to immediately correct misleading information and admit mistakes and fulfill the minimum responsibilities of professional journalism.
The statement mentioned that in post-people's uprising Bangladesh, the NCP wants to create a political culture where mutual criticism is constructive, rational and objective. The tendency to attack the opponent through baseless propaganda can destroy mutual respect and trust and make the political environment as confrontational and aggressive as before. Which should be avoided by all parties.
