He made this statement at a discussion meeting of the Zia Parishad on the occasion of the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder martyr President Ziaur Rahman at the National Press Club auditorium on Saturday (May 31) afternoon.

Amir Khasru said, "The elections must be held by December. When someone comes to invest in the country, they ask when the elections will be held. I want to see an elected government. I want to see an elected opposition party, an elected parliament."

He further said, "If someone says that only one party wants elections, is it true? Already, 52 political parties that have united with us in the movement against Sheikh Hasina want elections by December. Such a statement is embarrassing for us, the nation is being confused."

Mentioning that a handful of parties do

not want elections, this BNP leader said, 4/5 parties are not even registered parties, those who have no connection with the people of Bangladesh do not want elections. There was such a King's Party during the 11th too. I do not want to say these things, because saying these things creates division in the nation. Ziaur Rahman did not want politics of division, Tarique Rahman also wants united politics.

Speaking as a special guest, BNP Chairperson's advisor Adv. Moazzem Hossain Alal said, "The Election Commission has said they are ready for the elections, so why is there any delay? We want elections before December. In 1971, millions of people gave their lives for the right to vote and liberated the country. So why is time being wasted on elections now?"
