International Desk: The government of Pakistan has filed eight cases against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and hundreds of activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in connection with the protests in Islamabad from November 24 to November 27. They have been charged with terrorism, assault on police and violation of Section 144, including obstructing government work.

Thousands of PTI workers marched towards Islamabad last Sunday (November 24) in response to Imran Khan's 'final protest' call. Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur led the protest. However, PTI alleged that around 1000 activists were arrested on the way.

After reaching Islamabad on Wednesday (November 27), paramilitary forces opened fire to disperse the protesters. PTI alleged that at least eight workers were killed. In this regard, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said, 'No shots were fired in the protest and no body came to the hospital. PTI leaders say that 10 to 200 people were killed but this is not true.'

The Pakistani government termed Imran Khan's protest as 'corpse politics'.

Meanwhile, a journalist named Matiullah Jan has been arrested on charges of terrorism and drug trafficking by Pakistani law enforcement agencies. Matiullah Jan was investigating possible casualties in the recent protests.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN)-led government came to power in February. However, PTI refused to form the government, alleging military intervention. Since then, PTI has been protesting the release of Imran Khan and challenging the election results.

It should be noted that after three consecutive days of tension, the protest program was canceled after Imran's supporters reached the Red Zone D-Chok area of the capital Islamabad last Wednesday (November 27).

Analysts say that this incident has increased the tension in Pakistan's political arena. At the same time, the country's security and democratic environment are also endangered.

According to the Geonews report, the cases have been registered in various police stations including Shahzad Town, Sihala, Khanna, Shams Colony, Noon, Nilore, Tarnal, Banigala in Islamabad. Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and central leadership of PTI are named in these cases.
