Death toll from floods in

The flood situation has taken a terrible turn in several states

northeastern India, including Assam.

The death toll in the disaster has risen to 44. Of these, 17 people have died in Assam alone.

The media reports that the flood situation in seven states of northeastern India has become serious. As of Tuesday, the death toll due to floods and heavy rains in these states has risen to 44. Assam has been the worst affected, with 17 people losing their lives there.

Besides, 12 people died in Arunachal Pradesh, six in Meghalaya, five in Mizoram, two in Tripura and one each in Nagaland and Manipur. Most of the deceased died due to various causes including drowning, landslides, accidents in waterlogged conditions, said disaster management officials of the seven states.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the Chief Ministers of Assam and Sikkim and the Governor of Manipur to inquire about the situation and assured central assistance.
