What to do if the sacrificial animal

Question: I am obligated to perform Qurbani. I bought

sacrificial cow from the marke

t the day before yesterday and it was stolen. Should I buy a new sacrificial cow, or can I perform Qurbani with the lost cow?

Answer: If a Muslim owns fifty-two and a half tola of silver or its equivalent on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, in addition to his daily necessities, then it is obligatory to perform a sacrifice for him.

If, after purchasing a sacrificial

animal, it is lost, dies, or stolen, then it is obligatory to purchase another animal and sacrifice it for the person on whom the sacrifice is required.

And if the animal for which the sacrifice is not obligatory is stolen, dies, or is lost, it is not obligatory for him to buy a new animal and sacrifice it, just as it was not obligatory for him before. (Badayus Sanaye 4/216, Kholasatul Fatawa 4/319).
